Recently my work has led me to look at photographs as a physical medium. This train of thought directed me into revisiting discarded photographs I took in previous months that I had already deemed unusable and to approach them through small interventions. Tearing, painting and repositioning separate parts has allowed me to reuse these images to construct a completely new composition that invites me to think about process in a way I hadn’t been able to before. Action itself becomes part of the final product and recreates the moment in which the photograph was achieved. I believe that this game, at times random and at others thought-out and planned, encourages finding relationships between the images that as separate wholes had no dialogue between them. This act somehow transports me to the moment in which I captured the original image and to what exists behind each photograph. Looking at the lines that are created through the tearing process force a more studied approach to finding context and reflections when matching different photographs and the use of color on each tear reinforces their connection.
